What is a 3 phase inverter working principle?

  1. Input power processing: The three-phase inverter first receives the three-phase AC power as input. Then, the input AC power is converted to DC power (DC) through the internal rectifier. The rectifier is usually implemented using a diode bridge to limit the AC sine wave to a single-direction DC waveform.
  2. DC intermediate circuit: The converted DC power enters the DC intermediate circuit, also known as the DC link. This circuit plays the role of smoothing the DC voltage and filtering out the AC component to keep the DC voltage stable. The DC intermediate circuit may also contain filter capacitors or inductors to further smooth the DC voltage and reduce pulsation.
  3. Inversion process: Next, the DC power is converted into AC power (AC) through the inverter. The inverter is the core part of controlling frequency and voltage, which is usually implemented by SPWM (sinusoidal pulse width modulation) or other modulation techniques. The inverter consists of multiple switching devices (such as IGBTs or MOSFETs). By controlling the on and off time and sequence of the switching devices, the AC power of the required frequency and voltage can be generated.
  4. Output power control: The generated AC power is further smoothed and filtered by the output filter to reduce the harmonic components of the output voltage and current. Then, this AC power is provided to the three-phase motor as the driving power. By controlling the switching state and frequency of the solar inverter, the speed regulation, forward and reverse rotation, start and stop of the motor can be achieved.

Decent VFD, but setup takes some effort
This 3.7kW frequency inverter gets the job done with solid motor speed control and smooth operation. However, the setup instructions could be clearer—it took me some trial and error to get everything configured properly.

Setting of frequency inverter
We are setting up the frequency inverter, but are a big confused.
We need it to start at 5Hz, it should be P020 but when we set that to 5, the frequency inverter starts at 0 and runs to 5Hz?
We set it to 60 and it starts from 0 and accelerate till 60.
