Do portable solar panels need a charge controller?

Portable solar panels usually need to be equipped with a charge controller when in use. This is because the charge controller plays a vital role in the solar power generation system and has the following functions:

1. Protect the battery: The charge controller can intelligently manage the charging process of the battery to prevent the battery from overcharging or over-discharging, thereby extending the service life of the battery. When the battery is full, the controller will cut off the charging current to avoid overcharging; when the battery is too low, the controller will start the protection measures to prevent the battery from being damaged by over-discharging.
2. Prevent reverse charging: When the output voltage of the solar module is lower than the battery voltage, if there is no protection of the charge controller, the battery may reverse charge the solar module. The charge controller can prevent this reverse charging phenomenon from occurring.
