How to calculate the head of the solar water pump for the water tank?

When we design a solar water pumping system for water tank or home use, we should confirm the head of the solar submersible water pump. If the solar water well pump's head is not enough, the water flow will become small or even the water can not be pumped to the water tank.

In general, 3 distances should be confirmed.

h1: the perpendicular distance between the water tank and the ground.
h2: the perpendicular distance between the ground and solar water pump (in the well).
h3: the horizontal distance between the water tank and the solar water pump (in the well).

Then, the pump head H can be calculated as follows:
H=h1+h2+h3/10

For example, the height of the water tank is 12m, the solar powered water pump is placed at a depth of 5m, and the horizontal distance between the water tank and the solar water pump is 10m.
According to the formula, H=h1+h2+h3/10=12+5+10/10=18m.

Great 600W solar water pump for our farm.

We installed this 600W 72V DC solar water pump on our small farm to transfer water from our pond to the crops, and it has been working great. The flow rate is strong, and it easily reaches the water tank, which is over 50 meters uphill. It’s been a reliable, eco-friendly upgrade for our irrigation setup.

Large flow solar water pump

I like this solar water pump very much. Its flow rate is very large, the maximum flow rate reaches 800-1585 gallons per hour. It has a wide range of applications and can be used in water tanks, water features, ponds or farms.
