Does a battery is needed in the solar water pumping system?

Normally, the solar water pumping system doesn't necessarily require a battery.

In order to save costs, most solar power water pumps can be pumped continuously through the solar panels during the day. Its main function is to store water in a water tank or pond, rather than to store electric energy in a battery. In this way, the water stored in the daytime can be used at any time.
For off-grid pumping requirements at night, the battery can power the water pump continuously by using the power generated by the portable solar panels during the day. Therefore, it is possible to confirm whether it is necessary to increase the battery according to your own needs, and also need to select a controller with a charge control function.

I need solar well pump.

It will be placed to 70-75 meters deep (240’)
