What are the control mode of frequency inverters?

V/f control (voltage/frequency control)
V/f control is one of the most basic variable frequency inverter control methods. The basic principle is to keep the magnetic flux of the motor constant and control the motor speed by adjusting the proportional relationship between the output voltage and frequency (V/f ratio). In the low-frequency band, to compensate for the stator resistance voltage barrier, the voltage is often increased. This method is simple and reliable and is suitable for speed regulation occasions with low requirements for dynamic performance, such as fans, water pumps, and other loads.
Vector control
Vector control. Also known as field-oriented control (FOC). It is based on the dynamic mathematical model of the motor. Through coordinate transformation, the stator current is decomposed into excitation components and torque components, and controlled separately. This method can achieve independent control of the motor flux and torque, thereby greatly improving the dynamic performance and steady-state accuracy of the speed regulation system. Vector control is widely used in occasions that require high-precision speed control and high dynamic response, such as CNC machine tools, industrial robots, etc.
Direct torque control
Direct torque control is a method of directly controlling the torque and flux of the motor, which avoids the complex coordinate transformation and current regulation process. DTC directly calculates the motor's flux and torque by detecting the motor's stator voltage and current and directly controls the inverter's switching state through a hysteresis comparator to achieve a fast torque response. This method has a simple structure, direct control, and low dependence on motor parameters. It is suitable for applications with extremely high dynamic performance requirements.

Even running off a simple 120V input, this 4kW frequency inverter drives my 3-phase motor effortlessly, and the torque at low speeds is way better than I expected. The controls are precise, and the RS485 interface plays nicely with my system. Highly recommended!
